Dani Rosen - News

After years of putting off updating a site for myself, I've decided to delve into it again. However, this time, instead of the tedious task of using Notepad, I've succumbed to using a Content Management System (CMS) - Drupal. Hopefully - it will enable me to update my site more regularly - though, realistically - who has the time??

My name is Dani Rosen. I've been animating ever since the mid 80's. I'd like to believe that Computer Animation was the climax of my animation career - long after traditional animation, but come to think of it - I actually started animating with a computer. Albeit, it was lousy 2D low-resolution snippets, but it paved my way to further experimentations. I can't remember whether I did any animations on my Sinclair ZX 81, but I certainly did a bunch on my Apple II+.  (I am exluding all the flip-book animations I did in my history books)

At that time I was also exposed to a friend's 16 mm camera. That opened up a whole new experience of stop motion animation using plasticine and pixilation techniques (stop motion with humans).

After a few years I decided to take some courses in 2D animation (cell animation), at which time 3D-CG animations started showing up in various places and blew my mind. I decided to pursue that - so I enrolled at the Ringling School of Art & Design, where I got my B.F.A in Computer Animation.

Since then I've been animating for commercials, movies, video games and more.  Over the years I've also been picking up more and more technical skills - moving me from a character animator more towards a technical director. I consider myself these days an "all-arounder" - a jack of all trades, in computer graphics.

I've also shifted my duties and desires over time, from being a regular animator, to senior animator and finally to an animation supervisor (or head of a 3D animation department). Managing animation projects on a larger scale, troubleshooting technical problems, and finding creative solutions to every project's needs - is what I enjoy most.

When I do have a life outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two boys, playing Squash, guitar, wood-turning and other small things that keep me busy.
